Mausoleum of Rokn al-Din - Yazd

Seyyed Rokn al-Din was a 8th century mystic and scientist and he founded his school called “Rokinye”. Rokn al-Din was a qazi (chief justice) of the city and also held a spiritual position in Yazd and the surrounding areas.

The construction of the complex (Rokinye) was finished in 725. In the past, this complex housed an observatory, pharmacy, hospital, mosque, bath house, water cistern and a library with 3000 books.

Beautiful dome of the mausoleum is 11.5m and it is decorated with blue tiles. The dome of the mausoleum was undergoing some renovation work at the time of my visit.

This building is decorated from ground level to the top, all the way up to it’s dome. Decorations of the building are varied yet elaborate which cover the whole body of the building.
