Luxor City Photos
Luxor city is an amazing place to visit, built on the eastern banks of the River Nile and part of the ancient city of Thebes. It is very tempting city to snap some memorable photos and explore its’ rich history. The city offers some amazing sites such as the Valley of the king, the Karnak Temple, Queen Hatshepsut Temple and Luxor Temple.
Ahmad Najam Mosque which is located close to the Luxor Temple, mosque’s dome is based on the Mamluk architecture style. There is a large open square, opposite the Luxor Temple and it is filled with shops and restaurants. Mabad al-Karnak road passes here and most of the times owners of the horse driven carriages wait here for the tourists.
History
From the 18th to the 20th Dynasty, many kings and Queens established many temples to honor the gods. The decline of Pharaonic rule was mirrored by Thebes’ gradual slide into insignificance: when the Persians sacked Thebes, one might city was already on its’ back foot.
When Christianity arrived, city’s landscape changed and many churches were built within the walls or using some of the materials from the temples. The Arabs took hold of this city in the 7th century and city was named as al-Usqur (the palaces). In Luxor, one always finds itself very close to the River Nile which is heartbeat of the city. People cross the river banks on small boats and large ferries. Tourists go for Nile trips and it offered amazing views of the surrounding areas.
trees line on both sides of the Cairo-Aswan Road and area is much cleaner and air is fresh to breath as compared to other major cities in Egypt. And then there is a Luxor Bridge, it was constructed to connect the eastern and western banks of the Nile. It is about 9 kilometers from the Lxuor city centre.
The western bank of the Nile can be reached easily by a boat from Luxor city. If one needed to cross the river in a car, this is the bridge used by the drivers. On the western banks, there was no signal and traffic police and local farmers were crossing the road at their will.
Luxor City at Night
Mabad al-Karnak Street was lively at night with the locals who were trying to sell their services to tourists. An evening or night walk beside the River Nile is one of the ‘must do things’ if one comes to Luxor.
It was surprising that how much effort has put into making this city beautiful at night and trees on the Kornish al-Nile are decorated with lights. One of the reason why Luxor is decorated this much because the Karnak Temple is second most visited site in Egypt after the Giza Pyramids. All in all it was a nice experience to see the city at night and much cooler as compared to day time heat.
