City of David - Jerusalem

Location

City of David is an archeological park is located in Wadi Hilweh, Silwan, East Jerusalem. On the east, the City of David is bound by a narrow valley known as the Kidron Valley, in the west the main valley is the valley of Tyropoeon. The City of David is actually the ancient core of Jerusalem, from which the city grew and developed throughout history.

A beautiful walkway from the main road leads to the ticket office of this historical site. In the year 1004 BCE, King David (Prophet Daud) conquered the city from the Jebusites and established his capital there. There are lockers available which can be hired for 10 Shekles to change and get ready if anyone wanted to go to the Hezekiah’s Tunnel.

City of David consists of lots of recently renovated houses, area and sites spread on a steep hill and the valley. Inside the park, the Gihon Spring and the two Pools of Siloam, are main part of the site which is open to the public. There are smaller sites scattered inside the park most of them are reconstructed because not much have left of this ancient city other than archaeological finds. The park offers some wonderful views of the Mount of Olives, Arab village of Silwan and Kidron Valley.
