Cairo Tower

 

The Cairo Tower is located in the Zamalek district on Gezira Island of Cairo. It was built between 1954 to 1961,the tower was designed by the Egyptian architect Naoum Shebib. In Arabic it is called Burj al-Qahira, the Cairo Tower was inaugurated in 1961 by the late president Gamal Abdel Nasser.

This 187m tall structure was the tallest building in the African Continent for 10 years until 1971. This tower has a rotating restaurant which offers beautiful view of Cairo city. One rotation takes around 70 minutes.

Many tall buildings and monuments can be seen from the tower; Hotel Sofitel Cairo El Gezira, Hotel Novotel Cairo El Borg, 6th October Bridge and Cairo Opera House. The opera house was inaugurated on 10 October 1988. Most of the money came from Japan to fund this project during the reign of President Hosni Mubarak.

This part of Cairo is greener and it offers an escape from the noise and crazy traffic. Cairo Tower is famous for its breathtaking views of the city. Locals visit this area in the evening for its view and the pleasant walk in the neighbouring areas.
